Spark and Pony brings together 34+ years of combined experience creating beautiful digital products and meaningful brands. We are passionate about making a difference in the world and using our creative talents to do it.
Who We Are
What started as a friendship between two creatives quickly evolved into a business partnership with a shared vision of making the world a better place. In the early days, we found inspiration in our shared love for heartfelt stories, art and music, and a strong cup of coffee. It was our unrelenting desire to create meaningful experiences and make a difference that made us realize partnering with change makers is what our agency was created to do. Today, we design, build, and ship world-class brands and websites for some of the most innovative businesses, social enterprises, and non-profits in North America.
Our mission is to create meaningful experiences for our clients. That’s why we've spent years building systems and strategies that make working with our agency feel different. No unanswered emails. No confusing timelines. No uncertainty about what is expected — from either side. Just thoughtful project management and clear communication at every step. This level of care has helped us build long-lasting relationships with all of our clients.
Kass has been a passionate writer for as long as she can remember. She freelanced for numerous publications early in her career, exploring various topics, from music and the arts to anything she could sink her teeth into. Over the past twelve years, Kass has built a fulfilling career in content writing, gaining extensive education and professional experience working with major brands such as Toyota, Play Alberta, and GeologicAI. Her career has been driven by a deep passion for storytelling, which lies at the core of her work. At Spark & Pony, Kass specializes in transforming complex ideas into compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. She has a proven track record of crafting influential brand voices, creating impactful campaigns, and helping businesses and non-profits achieve visibility and elevate their brands.
When she's not leading her talented team of creatives, Kass enjoys gardening, exploring the mountains with her husband, and playing with her four adorable animals. She’s also working on her first novel in her spare time, proving that writing isn’t just her profession—it’s her passion.
As the co-founder of Spark & Pony Creative and a branding and UI design specialist with over fourteen years of experience, Michelle has honed her skills by working with leading clients such as the University of Alberta, City of Edmonton, Bioware, Calgary Zoo, Go Auto, STARS and more. She specializes in developing and executing comprehensive brand strategies for social enterprises and non-profits, blending strategic brand facilitation with innovative visual design and cutting-edge Webflow website development. Whether leading a team or working directly with clients, she focuses on guiding brands through strategic processes to create distinctive, impactful identities that resonate with audiences and drive social impact.
In her free time, she loves exploring her neighbourhood and the river valley with her partner and two cats, hiking in the mountains, photography, and discovering new cultures, art, architecture, and food in vibrant cities. As a passionate environmentalist and animal advocate, she channels her philanthropy through volunteering for environmental groups and rescue centers, and by taking on personal challenges, such as not buying clothing for a year.
Hailing from small-town Alberta, Leanne traded rural roots for urban excitement in Edmonton, pursuing marketing at Grant MacEwan College. After a stint as a Marketing and Communications Coordinator, she uncovered a passion for design and visual communications, leading her back to Grant MacEwan’s Centre of Arts and Communications for a diploma in Design Studies. She rose through the ranks to Senior Graphic Designer at a top automotive company before leaving to start a family. Now, with twin boys and a little girl, Leanne has returned to her hometown, embracing the same childhood charm for her kids that she and her husband once knew. Amidst the whirlwind of family life, she finds solace in her work as a graphic designer, where she can channel her creativity and passion for problem-solving to deliver tailored visual solutions that exceed her clients’ expectations. There’s no greater joy for her than witnessing a client’s face light up with delight upon seeing their vision brought to life – it’s a thrill that never gets old! When she’s not wrangling kids or crushing deadlines, you can find her sipping coffee and testing out fresh techniques to stay on top of her game.
Rae got her start fresh out of high school by working at a photography and design studio in Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa, which led her to study film and television in sunny Sydney, Australia. With a long history of social media management, content creation and copywriting, she was the perfect fit for our Junior Social Media and Communications Manager. She got her first camera for her 16th birthday and hasn’t stopped taking photos or creating since! Her skill set includes greeting card illustrations, typography, video editing, photography and videography, blog writing, and savvy social media know-how. A true creative at her core - she is all about bold art, bright colours, and big ideas. When she’s not working, you’ll find Rae thrifting second-hand finds, gardening, or cuddling with her regal beagle, Charlie.
We love using our platform to support charitable groups making a difference. We've donated to SACE, the Youth Environmental Action Network, and Bent Arrow, and collaborated with Rupertsland Institute to teach Métis women in micro-business the basics of branding and content marketing. We've also created campaigns to promote and uplift Edmonton's local small businesses. If you know an organization or community program that could use our help, reach out to us!
